Driver's License Restoration

If your driver’s license was suspended or revoked, refer to the list below for information on how to restore it.

Step 1 - Get a copy of your driving record.

• You can get a copy of your driving record online, by mail, or at your local Secretary of State (SOS) office.

• There is a $12 fee to purchase a copy of your driving record.

• Make sure to ask for a certified complete record.

Step 2 - Review your driving record.

• Look at everything listed below “End of Record History” to see all current barriers to restoring your license. 

• Take note of whether suspensions are definite or indefinite.

  • Definite suspensions include a specific time period during which your license is suspended. Once the period is over, you can go to your local SOS office to restore your license.

  • Indefinite suspensions do not have a predetermined end date. In some cases, you may be able to have your license restored. 

Step 3 - Pay all the fines and fees you owe.

1. • You will also have to pay a $125 reinstatement fee.

Step 4 - Request a hearing if necessary.

1. • You can request a hearing for a suspended or revoked license online, by faxing the hearing request application and all applicable documents to 517-335-2190, or by mailing the application and documents to Michigan Department of State, Office of Hearings and Administrative Oversight, P.O. Box 30196, Lansing, Michigan 48909.
