***MILS provides limited assistance for Survivors of Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse***

On-Reservation Domestic Violence and Elder Protection.

MILS staff may provide representation for survivors of domestic violence and elder abuse in personal protection or restraining order cases in tribal courts. 

Subject to specific funding, MILS staff may provide the full range of services for survivors of domestic violence and elder abuse pursuant to a federal Violence Against Women Act or Victim of Crime Act grant program or other domestic violence or crime victim assistance specific funding.

As of August 1, 2023, MILS has an Equal Justice Works Fellow - Crime Victim Advocacy Program on staff for 2 years to provide legal assistance through the tribal courts in Michigan for victims of crime with a focus on Domestic Violence.
