The mission of Michigan Indian Legal Services (MILS) is to improve the lives of Native American peoples, families, and communities through legal assistance and advocacy at no charge for those who are income-eligible for services. MILS is a specialized law office that serves the unique legal needs of the members of the native communities in Michigan to:
protect families and cultural practices,
secure fundamental rights and access to basic needs, and
challenge policies and practices that are harmful to our clients and client communities.

Applications for services are taken over the telephone Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Please note, if you are applying for services:
You must fall within our low-income eligibility guidelines (or be eligible for one of the tribal contracts or grant programs).
Your legal issue must be within our Board Set Priorities (or contracts or grants).
When calling our office number, you might be asked to leave a message. Please leave your name, your telephone number, and a brief description of your request for legal assistance.
