Security depositis are often required when renting a home. There are restrictions on how much of a security deposit a landlord can charge, as well as to what the security deposit money can be used for.

Starting October 1, 2023, MILS has a 3-year DHHS ANA grant to provide legal assistance for eviction defense and helping those who are housing insecure overcome Barriers to Housing (up to 300% of poverty).

In the Detroit area, assistance is also available through Neighborhood Legal Services, Michigan Legal Services, and Legal Aid and Defender.
